you have to be selfish.

  words of wisdom 101.

in the short eighteen years that i have lived, i have gained over millions of life experience from my everyday basic interactions, my society, and the social settings around me. when being on the internet, it's so easy to follow people that we view as successful or fortunate, and this usually reflects back onto how we treat ourselves. more importantly there are two different types of people that walk the earth with us; the losers and the leaders.

most people do not start off as leaders which is ok... me included. it's very rare to be born with a successful mindset right off the bat if you're just naturally lacking in that area. However, once you experience the beauty and torment of puberty, it is very important to deviate from the loser persona. adolescents are much more prone to negative thoughts and overall moods. our psychology processes factors like rejection using the same neural hardware it does for physical pain. this roughly means that the sinking feeling that you are experiencing isn't a case of overreaction. it is inventible to go through these meoemnts .. especially within the first 20 years of your life. however, what makes a leader is the fact that they would not relish in these feelings.

you have to be selfish in this lifetime in order to avoid drowning. the word selfish is often associated with negative connation as it means inconveniencing someone else. but when it comes to looking out for yourself... no one will ever do it as well as you. you are the only personal responsible for how your life unfolds, how you stand among society, and how you are perceived among your peers. no matter how much self-love you have... it will never be ok to remain contempt with your own happiness. no matter how much self-esteem content your intake... if you are personally not comfortable within yourself... you will sink... and you will drown.

if you have to be selfish in order to reach your dream physique or gain the education you want to.. then you need to do it. no matter how much support you receive in your life, the biggest supporter will always be yourself conscious. it is not ok to be contempt with abandoning what you want to be or what you could be. unless you are dead you can always strive to be better, to look yourself. to feel better, to be better.

everyone's circumstances are different i know. not everyone is privileged. some struggle with physical handicaps others mental...some have to count out their pennies a they buy enough food just to survive, some duck as bombs and grenades tear through their homes. you will not always have the energy or the drive to be selfish... but eventually whether it's a full 180 mindset change or a minute change such as spreading your bead in the morning... its ok to be selfish. no matter what... you will approach a time in your life when you realize that you need to be selfish if you ever want to move on from your sinking self. that's what separates the leaders of the world from the losers.

both raven queen of ever after high and blair wardolf of gossip girl are referred by both their peers and the media as "selfish".. observe their motives and reasonings for their drastic descions and evaluate within yourself if you are willing to act as they do.

  1. This only becomes more apparent with age and time. Pleasing other people will wear you thin. If you spend so much time keeping other people happy at your own expense, especially when they don't know how hard you try, they're never going to do the same for you in return in the way you need them to. You have to be selfish to find joy. You have to be selfish to make your own joy. The people you tiptoe around might not be the ones who support your selfish desires, like a dream job. Connection is great, but you have to trust that the right people come into your life when you need them, and it's okay that they leave sometimes too. The ones that stay are the ones you need to be selfish about. And supporting the people around you in order to make them feel cared about and keep them around- yes, that can be a selfish act too.

Always do what you need to in order to protect your own peace and keep yourself moving forward. <3
